Introduction of GENMEI Museum
GENMEI International Decorative Arts Museum, located in Changyang Chuanggu, Yangpu District, spans an exhibition area of 1,500 square meters. It is the first international art museum in Shanghai. The museum is dedicated to showcasing the influence of Chinese porcelain culture on European culture and economic development, aiming to establish the first platform in China that highlights exchanges in European classical art and the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures. It was founded by Ms. Sun Jianwei, an internationally renowned collector and philanthropist, and her husband, Laszlo Parakovits. Through a series of activities such as cultural collection, organizing exhibitions, and delivering lectures, we continuously showcase the brilliant cultural narratives of Chinese civilization to the global audience, promote traditional Chinese culture, and build a cultural exchange bridge for mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations as well as for Shanghai's friendly foreign exchanges.
GENMEI Museum comprises five major exhibition halls: the "East Wind Blowing Westward", the “ Show Unique Craftsmanship", the “Creative Intention" Hall, the “Elegance Through the World", and the “Timeless Craftsmanship and Beauty". These halls respectively narrate the story of how Chinese porcelain made its way westward and became highly sought after by royalty and nobility, as well as the developmental and innovative processes of decorative arts.
